    Your days will consist of…

    • Being a team player alongside great people by preparing and cooking fresh, healthy and developmentally friendly foods for babies, toddlers and kids.
    • Reviewing daily work lists and bringing up any questions to your supervisor before starting the tasks.
    • Following standard operating procedures while using recipes to produce meals to ensure consistency and quality across all menu items.
    • Preparing and cooking quality ingredients that represent our passion to deliver a great product to our customers.
    • Ensuring that all products are prepared correctly per product quality standard, recipe guidelines, and compliance with GMPs, USDA and all food safety and quality standards.
    • Immediately communicating recipe discrepancies such as order/over statement of yields, bake loss, process loss or bom to a supervisor.
    • Processing equipment set up and change over.
    • Striving to accomplish the goals of the manufacturing plan based on SQF requirements, consistent with established manufacturing, quality and safety standards.
    • Working in a clean and organized way and cleaning as you go, ensuring GMPs, USDA and sanitation standards are met.
    • Working safely at all times, asking for assistance when needed and notifying management of any problems or concerns.
    • Assisting as needed in all other areas of production operations such as plating, sealing, fulfillment, receiving and sanitation.

    We’d love for you to…

    • 1-2 years experience as a prep cook/food production cook, producing recipes for hundreds of portions at a time.
    • Ability to multitask and handle shifting priorities throughout your work shift.
    • Ability to communicate, read and understand English as we read and write recipes and conduct meetings in English.
    • Have basic computer skills.
    • Have basic math skills including weights and measures.

    Work environment and physical demands…

    • Work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving machines and forklifts in production facility.
    • Protective clothing or gear such as goggles, gloves and slip resistant shoes and other PPE may be required.
    • Work will be performed in a cold environment (34-42 degrees) for extended periods of time, must be able to work in a cold environment with required appropriate clothing.
    • Tools and equipment such as knives, hand tools, utensils, burners, ovens and standard commercial kitchen equipment will be used.
    • Work requires some physical strain such as long continuous periods of standing and walking in production facility.
    • Must be able to push, carry, lift and/or pull 25-50lbs.
    • Other physical demands may include climbing, crouching and/or reaching.

    Your days will consist of…

    • Designing, documenting and implementing a food safety and quality management program, from the arrival of raw ingredients into our facility through final packaging and shipping to customers
    • Creating, implementing and managing a comprehensive sanitation program for our facility and culinary team
    • Creating a culture of safe food manufacturing practices and procedures to ensure all products we produce are safe to consume
    • Being responsible for continuous management, monitoring and improvement of our food safety and quality practices
    • Organizing all HACCP logs, monitoring and sign off on all HACCP logs during production and writing of new HACCP plans as needed
    • Program validation and verification
    • Conducting regular and surprise inspections of our facility and equipment to ensure food safety standards are continually adhered to
    • Identifying preventative controls
    • Anticipating potential issues and establishing practices to prevent issues and mitigate risks
    • Taking the lead in identifying root causes in the event of a quality issue and taking the necessary actions to resolve the issue and prevent the potential for recurrence
    • Rapidly and effectively addressing any safety and compliance issues if they arise
    • Developing monitoring and reporting to continually assess food safety metrics and risks
    • Managing relationships with third party and government auditors, FDA and USDA

    We’d love for you to…

    • Have at least 7+ years of experience in food safety and quality management
    • Be HACCP certified and have 5+ years of experience in a HACCP certified facility
    • Have an FSPCA or PCQI certification for human food
    • Be internal auditing certified
    • Have experience with GFSI program implementation
    • Have experience in a USDA certified food manufacturing environment
    • Have expertise in microbiological sampling and testing methods
    • Understand food manufacturing in relation to sanitation, personal hygiene, food defense, traceability, recall ability, training, allergen control, labeling, microbiological testing, receiving, storage and manufacturing
    • Have thorough knowledge of food safety and quality management systems, food ingredient law, food processing and controls, Good Manufacturing Practices and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)
    • Continually educate yourself on food safety practices and standards, regulations, etc.
    • Degree in food science, food safety, quality management or related discipline is preferred

    Your days will consist of…

    Conducting Food Safety and Quality Assurance audits of our production facility ensuring standards are maintained and product integrity is preserved. Consult with production team members and management to resolve food safety, quality and efficiency problems. Function as an information source to production and various company departments when special and critical food safety and quality issues occur. Function in conjunction with FSQA Manager on Quality Control and Compliance on special department projects. This description reflects essential functions and does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

    • Verify CCP checks are being performed as stated in the HACCP/Food Safety Plans
    • Net weight check verifications
    • Confirm that production facility audit procedures (SQF) are properly carried out and assigned work schedules are maintained
    • Determine overall production facility food safety and quality by conducting and evaluating various product tests and tests related to ingredients and packaging
    • Assist in investigation Food Safety and Quality issues on the production floor
    • Evaluate and take corrective action when necessary with regard to food safety and quality at all levels of product movement
    • Perform inspections on finished products
    • Assist in performing inventory counts as necessary of finished goods
    • Educate and instruct production facility personnel in recommended GMPs, equipment sanitation and general sanitation and housekeeping practices. Confirm these procedures are being maintained
    • Develop CAPA reports
    • Discuss production facility evaluation with management, make appropriate recommendations and set timetable for improvement and corrections
    • Function as an information source for production and other Nurture Life departments when critical food safety and quality issues arise
    • Prepare production facility evaluation reports and submit them to FSQA Manager
    • Assist in the development of special department projects and work in conjunction with FSQA Manager.
    • Accept responsibility of training and preparing new employees for this position
    • Strive to accomplish the goals of the production facility plan, consistent with established manufacturing, quality and safety procedures
    • Follow company food safety and quality policies and requirements
    • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required

    Work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving machines in production facilities, handling of hazardous testing and sanitation chemicals. Protective clothing and gear such as goggles, gloves and shoes may be required. Work requires some physical strain such as long periods of standing and walking in production facility, and lifting of moderately heavy items such as test equipment kits and product cases.     INTERNSHIP SUMMARY

    The content coordinator intern will report directly to the content marketing manager, working closely with the social media manager and graphic designer. This position will be responsible for supporting the content marketing department for a full semester. This internship is for course credit and is unpaid. We would like an intern who can commit to 20 to 25 hours of work a week in our River North office.

     

    INTERNSHIP DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Assist with managing our editorial calendar—ideating blogs, scheduling to ensure content variety, reassessing publishing schedule as needed
    2. Write blog prompts—researching keywords, building a framework for the article, providing inspiration or necessary resources to writers
    3. Help ideate for blog photo needs and assess how we can use existing photos to achieve content needs
    4. Assist in reporting on blog performance by using Google Analytics to track pageviews, bounce rate, conversion rate, etc.
    5. Assist in working with key team members to ensure proper channel distribution (Ensuring the blog is being shared internally and to customers through email + social)
    6. Crop and resize photos for use on blog and any other requested channels
    7. Post blogs on WordPress and ensure all necessary elements are included within the content (tags, meta description, etc.)
    8. Assess past blogs, suggest future use, and implement changes as necessary—archive, get new photos, optimize with keywords, rework the content entirely, etc.
    9. Help keep photo assets organized and accessible by all team members.
    10. Assist in staging material organization and sourcing
    11. Update and/or review website changes, ensuring all assets are accurate and verifying that linking and messaging are up-to-date.
    12. Assist in any general content-related tasks. This could mean everything from holding up a reflector during a photoshoot, copyediting emails or looking for the perfect plate to feature our meals. The world of content is different every day!

     

    KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

    • Have a desire to get hands-on work experience and be consistently challenged
    • Be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, deadline driven, ambitious and a team player alongside great people
    • Strong writing and editing skills with a mind for process management and organization
    • A strong interest in fostering community through work—building relationships beyond the task, cultivating an inclusive work environment and challenging Nurture Life with new ideas and approaches
    • Have strong experience in Microsoft Office, Google Drive and Dropbox
    • Have an eye for photo composition
    • Some Adobe Creative Cloud experience preferred
    • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or related field preferred
